Project Challenge

RTL worked collaboratively with the client for the construction of the rehabilitation zone that when fully constructed traps gasses produced by decaying landfill and prevents rainwater mixing with the waste, furthermore any under-ground leachate waste is collected and channelled through pipes connected to the new leachate pond.

RTL's Approach

RTL was able to mobilise a local workforce and plant to construct a 1.0-meter landfill cap consists of multiple layers of earthen and clay compacted fill with a LLDPE textured double sided geomembrane layer, covered with drainage geocomposite, thick subsoil layer and a final topsoil layer.

Project Outcomes

1. Installation of gas collection system.
2. Installation of a subsurface drainage.
3. Construction of a top soil layer and establishment of vegetation.
4. Construction of a new lined leachate pond and connecting pipework.
